The mission location

AGADA NGO, in Ziguinchor

AGADA (Act Differently for Development in Africa), our partner based in Ziguinchor in Casamance is a Senegalese association working for the development of economic activities for local communities and with the aim of reducing food insecurity.

AGADA has been involved for over 30 years in supporting women’s groups for their emancipation through agroecology and the sale of their production.

It supports environmental protection projects, mangrove reforestation, sustainable agriculture, market gardening, rice growing, fish farming, and the protection of heritage species such as the manatee.

The role of the volunteer

The role of the volunteer will be to coordinate the Sens Solidaires projects on site:
– Carry out school correspondence with Senegalese schoolchildren, bring French letters and help write responses.
– Coordination of college videoconferences between Nice and Senegal.
– Support for the vegetable garden project in colleges.
– Help for women in the organic market garden where women make products based on vegetables and fruits.
– Mangrove reforestation campaigns.
Contribution to the dike construction site on the island of Effrane to slow down coastal erosion.

A typical day

The exact nature of the work you will be doing will depend on the priorities on site, as a volunteer it is important to remain flexible.

8am – Breakfast.

9am to 12pm – Morning activities: school correspondence, field visit.

12pm – Lunch.

2pm to 5pm – Visit of the progress of projects on site: vegetable garden, use of water filters and wells.

7pm – Dinner.

The cost of the mission

The total cost of a mission includes:

- mission costs including on-site transport, accommodation, supervision, food on site, between €1,100 and €1,800.

To which are added in addition:
- membership of the association(€25)
- plane tickets(around €800), cancellation option strongly recommended.
- travel insurance
- vaccination and pharmacy

In total, 66% of the amount committed is deductible from your taxes when you file your declaration.
Article 200 and 238 bis of the General Tax Code.
We will issue you with a tax receipt at the end of your mission.

The costs of weekend activities and any travel outside the program are your responsibility.

Mission departures are open all year round, it is up to you to choose your departure dates.

1) First of all, you must make sure that the flights Paris > Cap Skirring correspond to your availability and your budget! Use flight comparators: Skyscanner, Kayak, eDreams.. As Ziguinchor airport is under construction, you will have to land at Cap Skirring and then take the shuttle to Ziguinchor.

2) Contact us by email (contact@sensolidaire.org) or by filling out the form HERE indicating your name, first name, telephone number, email, choice of destination and any questions you may have. We will contact you to discuss the mission.

3) Book your plane tickets and send them to us by email.

4) Pay the mission fees and join the association.

5) We will send you the terms of commitment to sign.

6) We send you practical advice on preparing for the mission.

7) We send you the mission sheet based on your skills, to be completed upon your return from the mission.
